on tonight into the first part of the day tomorrow. we'll go hour by hour and talk about rainfall totals coming up. lauren, back over to you. ♪ guys... >> imagine seeing and hearing that. in south philadelphia driver barreling through more than a dozen park cars on one south philly street overnight leaving behind thousands of dollars in damage. the driver in custody. but people are still angry understandably so. jennifer joyce live in south philadelphia with this breaking story. jenny, i cannot imagine. >> reporter: no, me neither a lot of people are not awake yet here in south philly. i can imagine they did have a late 90 all of this happening after 11:00 clock. they ran outside to see what the heck was going on and then they found this. a number of cars damaged. a number of side mirrors ripped off this car getting a little

bit worse damage than others. i know you just saw some of that viewer video we'll show it to you again. his engine and then just crashing into cars. >> my god! >> reporter: so several people on the block came running outside after hearing the car crashing into parked vehicles here on third street. it happened around 11:00 ultimately the driver pulled over, got out of his car and what appears to be neighbors on the block held the man down until police arrived. the third police district tells us the driver was taken into custody for suspicious of dui. what happens now? a lot of people in south philly will be calling their insurance companies today and waiting to find out the status of that driver. now in police custody. so back out here live i walked up third street and lauren i counseled at least nine vehicles still out here with obvious

damage. back to you. >> i can't imagine. jenny joyce, thank you very mu much. less are investigate a double shooting in north philadelphia this morning. investigators say someone shot two men around 1:45 at west rockland and north broad street. 36-year-old man was shot twice in his legs and a 3584 old man three times in his legs. the 36-year-old is in critical condition at einstein hospital. police fear the shooter hit his artery. the 35-year-old man is in stable condition at einstein. officials are still looking for a suspect. a building in philadelphia's historic district ravaged with a massive fire will soon be torn down. flashing police lights can still be seen at third and chestnut street which is still closed off to traffic. it's been six days since a fire destroyed the building at 239 chestnut street. the cause of the fire still unknown. we have learned demolition will begin on monday and it's expected to take week. several streets in the area will be closed nearby businesses allowed to remain open during the project are wondering if the

road closures will affect your bottom line. >> if it's one week, two weeks that's okay but otherwise, upping, i don't know to do. >> going to be a problem but eye as i said before we don't know for sure yet so i would like to stay positive for the time bei being. >> the little lion restaurant sits right on the corner of third and chestnut it shares a wall with the building that took in the fire. the owner expects to be closed for at least two months. for list of the streets that will be closed go to fox 29.com before you head out to that area next week. the park land school district in lehigh county hopes to reopen its schools monday after more than two dozen buses went up in flames canceling classes yesterday. flames broke out around 3:00 yesterday morning at a bus garage in south whitehall township. 25 school buses were destroyed including 16 that were complet completely gutted. stephanie and her daughters woke up to the smell of smoke. >> we heard sounds that sounded like explosions so we wanted to come down here just in case the

building would go. >> we got to pull a lot of the metal aluminum from the building to get it off the top so the fire marshal can do his job. >> the district says it's leasing and repairing buses for monday. luckily its fleet is full insured. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. schools in our area have been high alert. officials reported a number of potential threats over the last week. including radnor high school and pennridge high school. pennridge school district says the police department will be more visible than usual in the coming days out of an abundance of caution. bensalem police searching for a man who groped a young girl inside of a department store. they have a picture of the guy. there he is. police say it happened wednesday night inside the neshaminy target. the 13-year-old girl was with her mother when the man allegedly walked up and inappropriately touched her before he got away. police want to track him down before he does this again. target is working with police in their investigation. the news has shoppers alarmed.

junior reporter chris in temple university here now. what do you have for us this morning. >> lauren i met a woman who has a lot of perseverance. she's humble despite what many people will call a very dull past. every day thousands of people walk through suburban station. some may call it a subway stop. but for others a home. with over 6,000 homeless people in our city, you'll find hundreds at suburban station. >> i was was mentally messed up to even live out here. >> meet michelle for almost 30 years she has been battling homelessness while sleeping anywhere she could find at the station. it wasn't until she entered a rigorous 19-month recovery program when she was able to turn her life around. >> this is where i'm at today by accepting they help. you have to want to accept people help to get it. >> reporter: despite her difficult past michelle decided to come back right here to suburban station this time as a homeless out reach worker trying to impact the lives of others. >> i can help someone out here

♪ this video is frightening a driver barrels through more than a dozen parked cars on a south philadelphia street overnight leaving behind thousands of dollars in damage. it happened on south third street sometime around 10:45 last night. people heard the noise and came running outside and one of them didn't want that driver to get away so he hemmed him down until police arrived. new castle county police are hoping someone recognizes this guy. it's a sketch of the man police say is exposing himself to people. police say there were two incidents this month in the north gray land crest and roselle sections of wilmington. in both cases, a guy driving green car made contact with young girls walking and then decides to expose himself. if you know who he is, give police a call.

and this morning five people are charged with filing false applications collecting tens of thousands of dollars in relief money in connection with super storm sandy. they're accused of receiving money from fema and other state grants that did not belong to them. that guy you see at the top, 64-year-old david silva, is from egg harbor township. prosecutors say the number of people charged in these cases since march 24 now stands at 109. welcome back to good day weekend i'm lauren johnson. thank you so much for joining us on this saturday morning. scott williams has a look at your forecast. hi, scott. >> hi there are lauren. another weekend so more unsettled weather. we have some areas of fog out there. but most of the rainfall arrives later on during the afternoon and the evening. mid 40s right now. we'll go to the mid 50s later on today. but look at the fog out there. visibility down to 2 miles in philadelphia. down to a quarter of a mile for places like lancaster, also, pottstown. half mile visibility currently in dover and a quarter of a mile

in millville and wildwood. so just be mindful of that. low 40s north and west. we have mid to upper 40s through sections of delaware and also south jersey. so the average high this time of year is 46 degrees. we'll top out right around 55 degrees for philadelphia. 56 in atlantic city. low 50s for the lehigh valley. headed to the poconos temperatures will be stuck in the 40s for high temperatures. so we have the clouds, some areas of fog but most of the rainfall it's still off to the west. and then as we zoom out you can see a around parts of the ohio river valley moderate to heavy rainfall that will head in our direction. so temperatures later on today top out in the mid 50s, and that seven day forecast, we'll have that coming up but you can see 60 degrees for tomorrow instead yesterday of that rainfall arrives later on tonight through tomorrow morning. lauren, back over to you. >> thank you very much. new york university and the company that caters its dining facilities are apologizing this morning. they're saying sorry for what's

being called a racially incentive lunch served during black history month. the black history month themed menu has faced plenty of backlash it included ribs, collard greens, corn bread, cool aid and watermelon flavored water. sophomore nia harris wept to facebook on tuesday to express her displeasure and distaste writing on facebook "in 2018, there's no excuse for intentional and deliberate disrespect. nyu and the catering company aramark issued an apology and some employees have since been fired. chad lassiter joins us this morning to discuss more about this. how are you? >> i'm good. good to see you. good morning. >> good morning. tell me your first reaction when you heard about this. >> not surprised. deeply rooted and the birth of the nation the thing that i want to highlight is the fact this student used social media from a social justice perspective to get the word out. back history is so much more than menus and food. deeply rooted in the stereo typical nations of cool aid and

find their way to grieving families. >> it's forgotten about it by some people next week. they'll just go on with their lives. but these people have to live with this for the rest of their lives. every time they look at this picture i want to remember someone cared. >> reporter: it had been sometime since the last ones. miss davis had done portraits memorializing 9/11 firefighters, children killed at sandy hook. the victims of the charleston church shooting and others but this particular tragedy took a son of easton among the 17 killed chris hixon is from the south side his parents still live in town. >> i was telling the mayor that i drew these pictures and he said, val, when you see chris' family, he said when you see the grandparents you're want to know them. they've been on center street all of their lives. >> reporter: miss davis from three blocks over. there's a plan for later this week to deliver the portrait to hixon's family but the work itself is the heart it all. it allows miss davis to consider those killed, who they were washington they might have been, the teacher comes out when she thinks about her own students.

it caused a lot of south philly residents to get very upset last night and still this morning. take look at this vehicle. this is one of the cars with a little bit more severe damage sideswiped on the corner in addition to this we have roughly nine vehicles still on this block with side mirrors ripped off. i know you just saw that viewer video. we have to show it to you again. you can hear horns honking, you can hear that engine revving and smashing into car after car after car. >> he tried to get out of the vehicle loft residents that actually came hit came out of their houses and laid them at bay. handy to be a lucky police officer coming buying right after it happened. it was mind blowing. i had to pop in the house and call neighbors up and just started making sure all my friends cars were okay. so just mind blowing. >> reporter: so that was actually one neighbor i talked to who said he had just gotten home from work and he saw all of his neighbors out here in the street working together as you heard him say they were holding

down the driver who caused all of this damage until police arrived. so it was third district police. they responded and they ended up taking that man into custody on suspicion of dui. in the meantime we have again nine cars here but that man we talk to said last night there were roughly 15, 16 so some of those cars probably were moved overnight. but a lot to figure out now. i think you also heard that man say that they believe the driver is one of their neighbors. so people here know who that person is. so it's likely he will have to pay for this damage. back to you lauren. >> that is rough. jenny joyce, thank you so much. police are investigating a double shooting in north philadelphia this morning. investigators say someone shot two men around 1:45 at west rockland and north broad street. 36-year-old man was shot twice in his legs. a 35-year-old man shot three times in his legs. the 36-year-old is in critical condition at einstein hospital. police fear that shooter did hit an artery. the 35-year-old is in stable condition officials are looking

for a suspect. a building in philadelphia's historic distract ravaged by massive fire will soon be torn down. flashing police lights can be seen at third and chestnut street which is still closed off to traffic. it's been six days since a fire destroyed the building at 239 chestnut street. the cause of the fire still unknown. we have learned demolition will begin on monday and it's expected to take about a week. that means several streets in the area will be closed. nearby businesses allowed to remain open during the project wonder if those road closures will affect their bottom line. >> the park land school district in lehigh county hopes to reopen its schools monday after more than two dozen buses went up in flames. canceling classes yesterday. flames broke out around 3:00 o'clock yesterday morning at a bus garage in south whitehall township. 25 school buses look at them there destroyed including 16 that were completely gutted. stephanie and her daughters remember waking up to the smell of smoke.

ben sal let me police searching for a man who groped a young girl inside a department store. they have a photo of the guy. police say it happened wednesday night inside the neshaminy target. the 13-year-old girl was with her mother when the man allegedly walked up and inappropriately touched her before he got away. police want to track him down before he does this again. target is working with police in their investigation. teachers returned to stoneman douglas high school yesterday just nine days after a gunman opened fire killing 17 innocent people. school officials say they're taking their time to reopen providing counseling and other resources to faculty and staff. they want to make sure this transition goes smoothly but the incident has affected communities across the country including right here in our area. joanne pill lee gee has more on the school threats including the most recent out of delaware county. >> everybody is hyper vigilant based on the current circumstances around the country. >> reporter: police in radnor township were called to the high school after a student social

media post was considered a potential threat. >> anything that could be of a concern school district calls us obviously we responded promptly over there. to determine there was a student involved in some messaging that went on. >> i don't think we're ever ever over reactioning because you never know. you never know if a threat is real or not. >> reporter: these horrific images seem etched in our collective memory at this point. students running from their high school in park land, florida, last week. former student with an ar-15 went on rampage, killing 17. since then, there's been a rash of threats at area schools. at radnor high, and also at pennridge high in bucks county and at at a middle school in 59 lapped, new jersey, and at west deptford high in gloucester county. at pennridge the district says "out of abundance of caution, the pennridge regional police department will be more visible than usual at the high school in the upcoming days. we appreciate their assistance

kicks and her movements and thinking she's a normal child but when i would have had her she would have came out, you know, a lot of issues so it was hard decision. i had her footprints and, you know, me doing this event causes me to propel my grieving process. so me honoring women who have been through all types of things just letting them know you have the right to live past your pa pain. >> i know i read some of the stories of the women. one woman who is local who's living with hiv. >> yes. >> there's other women who have their own stories. >> yes. >> how did you find these women and locate them to help them come forward and share their stories? >> well a few of women i personally new and i watched their lives progressively and i said you know what, she would be a great candidate. i met the woman with hiv at a another event and i said she would be amazing because she was so strong and she was confident. so all the women have been through traumatic experiences. they're currently dealing with breast cancer, um, loss of babies, loss of their mothers,

um, one woman you know she was in a poverty situation now she's going to get her master's next week. >> i saw that. >> it's so it's amazing. i'm just excited just to honor the women and you know it's just something i'm doing from my heart. >> year of the woman they say. >> the year of the woman. for women and by women. >> we always hear the phrase, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. >> yes, makes us stronger. >> did you truly believe that now. >> yes. every time i have an inn link i get sad or i think about all the women that i'm empowering to move forward, just my life being a testimony to help them propel to say, i can do this. i can make it and i'm living for my children, for my family, for my husbands and that's my thing. i had to live for my three-year-old daughter, and, you know, it's amazing. >> i know tomorrow kind of walk me through what will happen at this event. >> tomorrow we have a dynamic speaker jocelyn fitzgerald from compelling your world ministries she's amazing. she's out of philadelphia. we have a lot of vendors. we have, um, painter who will do
